Dog Walks in Broadway: Our Favourite Walks and Places to Explore

One of the questions we’re often asked by guests staying at Laburnum Cottageand Lower Mill Cottagesin Broadway is where they can take their dog for a good walk.

Luckily, we’re rather spoilt for choice.

Living and looking after holiday cottages in this part of the Cotswolds means we know just how much our guests enjoy bringing their dogs with them. Broadway is a particularly good place for a dog-friendly holiday, with countryside walks starting close to the village, the Cotswold Way passing through the area and plenty of opportunities to finish a walk with a drink or meal at a dog-friendly pub.

So, if you're planning a stay with us, here are some of our favourite dog walks in Broadway and the surrounding countryside.

Broadway to Broadway Tower

If you only have time for one proper countryside walk during your stay, we'd recommend walking from Broadway up to Broadway Tower.

It's one of our favourite walks to suggest to guests because you get such a wonderful change of scenery. You can leave Broadway village behind and, within a short time, you're walking through open countryside with views stretching across the Vale of Evesham.

The route up to the Tower is around four miles there and back and includes some uphill sections, so it is more of a proper walk than a gentle stroll. However, the views from the top are well worth the effort.

It's particularly beautiful on a clear day, and it's lovely at different times of the year. In spring and summer you'll find plenty of colour in the countryside, while autumn brings its own spectacular display.

Once you reach Broadway Tower, you can take a break and enjoy the views before heading back towards the village.

Do remember that dogs need to be kept under control around livestock, and dogs should be kept on leads at Broadway Tower because of the deer and other visitors.

A shorter walk around Broadway Tower

If four miles sounds a little ambitious, you can drive up towards Broadway Tower and enjoy some of the shorter walks around the Tower Country Park instead.

This is something we often recommend to guests who want to enjoy the scenery without committing to a longer walk from the village.

The Tower is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs before stopping for a coffee or something to eat.

It's also a lovely place to visit with a dog because there are dog-friendly areas around the Tower. Just remember that dogs must be kept on leads.

Walk straight from your cottage

One of the things we particularly like about Laburnum Cottage and Lower Mill Cottages is that you don't necessarily need to get in the car to enjoy a good walk.

From our cottages in Broadway, you can head out into the village and quickly reach the surrounding countryside.

For us, this is one of the real benefits of bringing your dog to stay in Broadway. You can get up in the morning, put the lead on and head out for a walk without having to plan a drive somewhere first.

You can have a wander around the village, explore the lanes and footpaths around Broadway and then return to the cottage for breakfast.

And after a longer walk, there's nothing better than coming back to your own private space and putting your feet up while the dog has a well-earned rest!

Exploring the Cotswold Way

Broadway is also fortunate enough to sit on the Cotswold Way, so there are plenty of opportunities for longer walks if you and your dog enjoy getting out for several hours.

You don't need to tackle a huge section of the trail. We often find that guests are happiest simply choosing a manageable section and turning the walk into a few hours of exploring.

The countryside around Broadway gives you everything you'd hope for from a Cotswold walk – rolling hills, farmland, woodland, pretty villages and some fantastic views.

Just make sure you check the route before setting off and remember that conditions can change considerably after wet weather.

Broadway and Snowshill

For those looking for something a little more adventurous, the countryside between Broadway and Snowshill is another area well worth exploring.

Snowshill is one of the prettiest villages in the area and sits high in the Cotswold hills above Broadway.

The walk between the two villages takes you through some beautiful countryside and is a good choice if you have an energetic dog who enjoys a longer walk.

If you don't want to walk the entire route from Broadway, you can also drive to the Snowshill area and explore some of the surrounding footpaths.

Staying at March Hare Cottage in Bretforton?

We also look after March Hare Cottagein Bretforton, which is just outside Broadway and makes another lovely base for a dog-friendly break.

Although Bretforton has plenty of wonderful countryside on its doorstep, guests staying at March Hare don't have to stay in the immediate area for their walks.

Broadway is an easy trip away and makes a great destination for a day out with your dog. You can park in or around the village, enjoy one of the local walks and explore the High Street before heading back to Bretforton.

And there's another big attraction for dog owners staying at March Hare Cottage – the Fleece Inn is just a short stroll from the cottage.

It's one of our favourite things about the cottage's location. You can enjoy the surrounding countryside during the day and then walk down to the Fleece for a drink or meal without needing to get back in the car.

Our tips for dog walking in the Cotswolds

Having guests stay with their dogs regularly, we know that a few simple things can make a big difference.

Bring a towel! Even if the forecast looks good, Cotswold footpaths can become muddy after rain.

It's also worth bringing plenty of water for longer walks, particularly in warmer weather.

Keep dogs under control around livestock and follow any local signs about leads. Much of the countryside around Broadway is farmland, so it's important that dogs don't disturb sheep, cattle or other animals.
