The GWR is an all-volunteer steam and diesel heritage railway in the English Cotswolds. Since Saxon times, the stone built village of Bourton on the Hill has hugged the Cotswold escarpment. Built on monastic lands, Bourton House, its Brewhouse stables and coach house have created a courtyard since the late 16th century.
At the time Shakespeare was a child his father the Mayor welcomed groups of actors to entertain the townspeople. This may have started Shakespeare´s interest in the theatre, which led him to London to work, but he returned to Stratford upon Avon near the end of his life.
